We are thrilled to welcome you and your exotic animal companion to the Exotic Animal Veterinary Center! Thank you for choosing our clinic for your pet's healthcare needs.
Founded in 2010 by Dr. Sari Kanfer, our clinic provides top-tier care exclusively for exotic animals. Our veterinarians and staff have undergone extensive specialized training in exotic animal medicine and husbandry to ensure your pet receives the highest quality of care.
Our clinic is committed to training the next generation of exotic animal veterinarians. We employ veterinary interns, who are fully qualified veterinarians, gaining additional experience in exotic animal medicine. Rest assured; all work an intern performs is closely monitored by one of our experienced veterinarians. Additionally, we routinely host veterinary and veterinary technician students in their clinical years of school. These students participate in patient care under the close supervision of our staff. Our commitment to education helps us foster a new generation of veterinarians specializing in exotic animal medicine.
We understand that your exotic pet is a unique and beloved member of your family, and we are committed to providing personalized care tailored to their specific needs. To further enhance our ability to offer advanced diagnostics and treatments, we are proud to have a CT scanner on-site, allowing us to perform scans on the same day as your appointment. In addition to CT scans, our clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds, and other essential diagnostic procedures.
We offer two types of appointments to accommodate your schedule and your pet's needs: routine in-person and drop-off. Routine in-person appointments are scheduled for a specific time, and the exams are performed with you present. In contrast, drop-off appointments allow you to leave your pet at the clinic for examination and diagnostics. During a drop-off appointment, a technician will collect a detailed history of your pet, including diet, housing, and behavior. Immediately upon drop off, your pet will be triaged to ensure they are stable, and then they are placed into a species-appropriate enclosure with food and water until they are able to be examined. The veterinarian will examine your pet between routine appointments and call you to
discuss the findings, recommended tests and treatment plans. Please note that delays may occur during routine appointments due to the complex nature of exotic animal care.
We recommend that your pet's primary caregiver accompany you to the appointment or be available to communicate with our staff. A detailed history of your pet's diet, housing, and environment is crucial for providing optimal care. If the primary caregiver cannot be present or available by phone, we encourage you to complete the relevant forms on our website in advance.
To ensure your pet's comfort and safety during their visit, please bring them in a secure, chew-proof carrier. For pets that require constant access to food, such as rabbits, chinchillas, or guinea pigs, please bring a small amount of their usual diet, like hay. Please use a carrier specifically designed for their size and species when transporting your pet. It is vital to maintain a stable temperature during transportation and to avoid extreme heat or cold. If you have any questions about transporting your pet or need recommendations, our friendly staff is happy to assist you. We want to ensure a safe and stress-free journey for you and your pet.
To ensure we can provide the best possible care for all our patients, Exotic Animal Veterinary Center operates on an appointment-only basis. We understand that emergencies can arise; please call our receptionist if your pet requires urgent veterinary attention. We will do our best to accommodate urgent cases on a limited basis. While you can text or email to schedule an appointment, please know these methods may not be checked promptly.
We are excited to partner with you in caring for your exotic animal companion. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to meeting you and your pet soon!
Sincerely,
The Exotic Animal Veterinary Center Team
